How bus connections and transfers work

When there is no direct bus, a connection lets you travel with one transfer. Here is how to plan and book each leg with confidence.

Not every pair of towns has a direct coach. When they do not, you can still get there by changing buses at a hub province in the middle. This is called a connection, and planning it well is the difference between a smooth trip and a missed bus.

What a connection is

A connection is two separate bus journeys: one from your origin to a transfer province, and a second from that province onward to your destination. Each leg is its own ticket, often with a different operator.

Why each leg is booked separately

Because the legs are sold by different companies, no single operator guarantees the whole journey. If the first bus is late, the second will not wait. That is why the connection planner shows connections as a travel plan, not a through ticket.

How to travel a connection safely

• Leave a generous gap between the arrival of leg one and the departure of leg two — at least 60 to 90 minutes.
• Note whether you arrive and depart from the same terminal. In big provinces they can be different stations.
• Call the operator's counter to confirm the seats before you rely on the plan. Counter phone numbers are on every connection card.
• Book the second leg early on busy routes so it is not sold out when you arrive.
